  • Florida Teens Surrender in Homeless Beatings

This booking photo provided by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, shows Thomas Daugherty, 17, who is suspected of being involved in the beatings of three homeless men. Daugherty and Brian Hooks, 18, turned themselves in to the police Sunday. The two face murder charges in the death of Norris Gaynor and aggravated battery charges in the videotaped beating of Jacques Pierre.

Two South Florida teens suspected in the beatings of three homeless men turned themselves in to police Sunday, authorities said.

Family attorneys negotiated the surrender of Brian Hooks, 18, and Thomas S. Daugherty, 17.

They will face murder charges in the death of Norris Gaynor and aggravated battery charges in the videotaped beating of Jacques Pierre, said Capt. Michael Gregory of the Fort Lauderdale police.

They also are suspects in the beating of a third man, Raymond Perez, 49, whose case remains under investigation, Gregory said.

The teens were in police custody pending official charges from a grand jury, Gregory said. Police also were investigating whether the two may have been involved in other beatings and if they had accomplices.

"We do know there have been other assaults of homeless in Fort Lauderdale," Gregory said.

Names of the teens' attorneys were not immediately available.

Pierre, 58, was beaten on the Fort Lauderdale campus of Florida Atlantic University. Gaynor, 45, was killed a few blocks away, and Perez, 49, was beaten in a Church-by-the-Sea garden.

It was not clear if Perez and Pierre remained hospitalized Sunday.

Its bad enough for these people, now they have to endure people who are less then they are [although they dont know it]. Its a shame what we dont want to see we push aside or remove from view. Its not just these brainless idiots that committed this crime againt the weakest of humanity but society as a whole. Think back, when the republican national convention was in town [ny] the police removed all the so called bums from the street out of view. Brilliant isnt it? the very thing that should be addressed by senators, congressmen, and possible future presidents are taken from sight, Do they know of the problems that really exist? how can they when this is done.

The Boys that committed this crime against the helpless reflect the impatiance and disgust society has with those who drop out or fail in life, just like someone old in the family, ok, whos going to take grandma? hello i dont hear you now, how many of you have done this i cant take care of her lets put her away someplace that does. Well guess what people you just made grandma? thats ok 15 hail marys will take care of that. enough said.
