A white supremacist group will be allowed to march in Jena, La. on Martin Luther King Day to protest the "Jena 6," where six black students from Jena were charged for an attack on a white schoolmate.
The Nationalist Movement, a "pro-majority" group based in Learned, Miss. will be gathering in response to last September's march in support of the Jena 6.
The Nationalist Movement will not be rallying unopposed, however. The newly formed January 21st Committee is planning a demonstration of their own against the supremacist group to "politically oppose and drown out Lynch Mob Racists."
The demonstration will include banners, signs, posters and other attention-grabbers such as bells, whistles, drums and noise makers.
Committee members say that people from as far away as Seattle, Los Angeles and New York, as well as closer locales including Houston, New Orleans and Atlanta have written in to find out how they join them.
While tensions will be high, the Nationalist Movement reportedly won't be carrying firearms, and the January 21st committee said their goals are political, not violent.
"As far as our side, we're just stating that our intentions are nonviolent, and we're going there to politically oppose their message and drown them out politically," said committee member Charlie Abrams. "We're not intending to have any violence happen. But we're also not going to be intimidated into not going there due to threats of violence, because this is too important for people not to stand up."
