Radio shock jock Tom Leykis may rescind the $50,000 in reward money he offered in the Bryan Stow beating case because the city of Los Angeles apparently won't accept it.
Leykis announced on his website in April that he would double the amount of reward money initially being offered ($25,000) by the L.A. Dodgers in the search for Stow's attackers.
On Tuesday, the LAPD announced they were increasing the total reward from $100,000 to $200,000. But, Leykis says his contribution wasn't mentioned.
After several phone calls, Leykis says he was told by City Councilman Ed Reyes' office that they can't accept rewards from private citizens.
"Why play politics with a reward?" Leykis said in an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News. "Is there a reason why (McCourt's) money is good, but mine isn't? And an average person can't get involved in offering reward money? Why not?"
The Dodgers are now offering $125,000.
Leykis, whose controversial show aired nationally from 1994 to 2009, believes the nature of his former show may have something to do with the reward money refusal. His show urged men to spend as little money as possible on women in order to have sex with them.
He says when he offered the reward, he was trying to help the police department catch the suspects. He says if the Stow family asked for help he would assist them.
Leykis says he will rescind the $50,000 offer to the city as of 5 p.m. Friday if nothing materializes.
Stow, a 42-year-old father of two, has been unconscious since he was severely beaten by two men at Dodger Stadium on opening day. Officials say he was attacked because he was wearing a Giants jersey.
