  • Vince Young joins Eagles

Vince Young's future will not be as a starter for the 2011 season, but as a backup in the NFL.

On Friday, the Eagles came to terms with the former Tennessee Titan on a one- year contract. Young will back up Michael Vick.

"I look forward to working with him and making him a better player," said Vick. "It's going to be a positive effect. I think Vince will mature as a player ... I think he'll get better as far as understanding what this offense is about and I think it will help him long-term. That's our goal, to get him in here and make him a better player. If we ever need him, he's here for us."

Young, in essence, takes the place of Kevin Kolb as Philadelphia's No. 2 QB. Kolb was traded to Arizona on Thursday.

Young battled questions about his work ethic, leadership and injuries during his five-year career in Tennessee.
A season-ending thumb injury limited Young to nine games in 2010. He completed 93 passes for 1,255 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Originally drafted by the Titans with the third overall pick in the 2006 draft, Young threw for 8,098 yards, 42 touchdowns and 42 interceptions in 54 games with Tennessee.
