Maurice Jones-Drew's pointless holdout seems even sillier now.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Jacksonville Jaguars fined Jones-Drew $800,000 for his time away from the team. That was actually half of the $1.6 million that they could have fined him if they wanted.
So Jones-Drew lost a ton of money for a holdout that got him nothing. The Jaguars gained nothing because their best player isn't truly ready for Week 1. And they didn't make some principled stand because ultimately they cut him a deal to reduce the fines.
It was an embarrassing saga for Jones-Drew. The only positive: It's over now.
