Kirkland police have arrested former UW Huskies star Jerramy Stevens on investigation of fourth-degree domestic violence assault for an attack on his fiancee — two-time Olympic gold medal soccer player Hope Solo.
According to Times news partner KING-TV, Stevens, 33, a former Seahawks tight end, was in Kirkland Municipal Court this afternoon after being accused of allegedly striking Solo.
On Monday at 3:45 a.m., Kirkland police were dispatched to a disturbance call at a home in the 6400 block of Northeast 138th Place. The call involved a fight between eight people during a party and the use of a stun gun, according to Kirkland police.
Police contacted several people at the home who “appeared to be intoxicated and were uncooperative,” a police news release said.
Officers found a 31-year-old woman with a cut on her elbow, a 32-year-old woman with a hip injury and a 34-year-old man suffering from bumps, scrapes and contusions, according to police.
Police arrested Stevens in connection with the injuries suffered by the 31-year-old woman.
Hope Solo is 31.
According to KING-TV, Stevens and Solo, a couple of two months, had argued whether they would live in Florida or Washington. Stevens was released after today’s hearing. The couple had reportedly planned to marry today.
“This investigation has been forwarded to Kirkland’s Family Violence Unit Detective for further investigation,” police said.
Stevens has had numerous run-ins with the law, dating back to high school.
As a senior at River Ridge High School in Lacey in 1998, Stevens faced a felony assault charge that was downgraded to a misdemeanor, which allowed him to keep his football scholarship to the University of Washington.
As a sophomore at Washington, he was arrested for investigation of sexual assault but never charged. As a junior in 2001, he was cited for reckless driving after crashing into a retirement home and fleeing the scene.
Drafted in the first round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2002, he was arrested for DUI one year after being selected. He pleaded down to reckless driving.
He was arrested in Arizona in 2007 and later convicted of extreme DUI. His blood-alcohol content was measured at twice the legal limit more than two hours after he was pulled over.
He was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that same year. The Bucs released Stevens in October 2010 after he was arrested on a felony charge of marijuana possession with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Solo is a former University of Washington soccer star and two-time Olympic gold medalist. She’s also a former contestant on television’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
Solo raised eyebrows during this summer’s London Olympics when she went on a Twitter rant against former player Brandi Chastain, who criticized a member of the U.S. team during the broadcast of a match.
