General manager Jim Bowden and manager Bob Boone were fired Monday by the Cincinnati Reds, half way through a disappointing inaugural season in their new ballpark.
They were fired shortly before a makeup game with the Philadelphia Phillies. Bench coach Ray Knight was appointed to run the team for the game.
Dave Miley, the manager at Triple-A Louisville, will run the Reds for the remainder of the season.
Bowden and Boone had come under increasing criticism in the final years of their contract, as the team failed to win on the field and appear to lose its direction.
Bowden had been general manager since 1993, and guided the team through its tough times under former owner Marge Schott.
