  • Divac Says He's Leaving Sacramento

Vlade Divac (right) played seven seasons with the Lakers and has played in Sacramento since 1998.

Vlade Divac said Monday he probably will be leaving the Sacramento Kings and going back to their California NBA rivals, Los Angeles Lakers, his former club.

The 36-year-old Serb center, who is a free agent after spending six seasons with the Kings, said that Sacramento was not willing to give him more than US$2.5 million per season to stay with the club.

"As it seems now, I'm definitely leaving Sacramento," Divac said. "It was a great six years in Sacramento."

He said that probably, "the Lakers will be my (next) club."

"I'm sad that I'm leaving, but the Kings did not show any interest to keep me," Divac said. "I was willing to play for less money, but not as less as the Kings had offered me."

"A friend had told me that that it would probably be nice that I finish my (NBA) career where I started, in Los Angeles," Divac said.

The Lakers last week traded center Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat for three players and a draft selection.

Divac joined the Lakers in 1989 from Partizan Belgrade, spending seven seasons in Los Angeles. After two season with the then-Charlotte Hornets, Divac joined the Kings in 1998.
