  • Raiders' CB Charles Woodson Offered $63 Million

    Charles Woodson

What is it going to take to get Charles Woodson to sign with the Oakland Raiders? Turns out the answer might be even more than what the cornerback said he was requesting.

The Raiders have offered their franchise cornerback a deal that would satisfy Woodson's wish to be the highest-paid cornerback -- i.e., more than the seven-year, $63 million deal Denver Broncos star Champ Bailey signed -- the Contra Costa Times reports.

However, Woodson hasn't relinquished his holdout and the two sides are still negotiating. Woodson's agent, Carl Poston, didn't return a phone call from the newspaper but was interviewed on Sirius NFL Radio.

"We were actually pretty close before there was an increase in Charles' [salary-]cap number," Poston said. "The problem right now is, that the Raiders are a little ... I'll use the word 'bitter' about Charles' cap number going from $7 [million] to $8.7 million, and they don't want to reflect those changes in his contract. So once we get to that point, we can probably get something done."

The Raiders placed the franchise tag on Woodson, a four-time Pro Bowl selection in February. With the franchise designation, he would make about $8.8 million this season, but Woodson hasn't signed the Raiders' tender.

By not signing, he's technically not on the roster and can't be fined for missing training camp.

Woodson, who's entering his seventh pro season, has said he wants a big-money long-term contract.

The Raiders said last month that they were prepared for a long holdout.

Man, thats nothing. Payton Manning gets 99 million dollars every season. An then when Peyton retires his brother Eli will be an million-aire. Talk about money. Just think how much advertisement will come Eli's way. When they're father (Archie Manning) dies.
