  • Carson's Status With Chargers Uncertain After Arrest

The San Diego Chargers had little to say Friday about defensive tackle Leonardo Carson, who was arrested a day earlier in Mobile, Ala., and charged with breaking into an apartment and kidnapping a woman.

"I don't know what the facts are, and until I've had an opportunity to determine exactly what those facts are, it is not appropriate for me to respond to any questions with regard to that,'' coach Marty Schottenheimer said before the Chargers flew to Houston for an exhibition game Saturday night.

Carson was in Mobile to attend his grandmother's funeral when he was arrested. He had been scheduled to rejoin the team in Houston. With Jamal Williams out with a back injury, Carson had been moved back into the starting lineup.

Schottenheimer said it's possible Carson will play Saturday night, "but again, until we have all the details I don't want to say anything with certainty.''

Quarterback Drew Brees said Carson's teammates are supporting him, and that his arrest isn't a distraction.

"Guys are going about their business; we have a game to play and that is what we are focused on,'' said Brees, who should get roughly a dozen snaps in the game against the Texans.

"Obviously, we hope he is doing OK and we are behind him. But none of us knows anything. Obviously, guys are aware he is arrested, but as far as the details, we have no idea.''

Carson was charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree kidnapping, and was released from Mobile County Metro Jail on $57,500 bond.
