  • Auburn Moves Into Tie For Second in AP Poll With Sooners

Auburn moved up a spot in The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday, into a tie for second with Oklahoma. Southern California remained No. 1 easily with 51 first-place votes and 1,608 points. Auburn and Oklahoma each had 1,536.

The movement signals that Auburn might be in position to move up to second in the new Bowl Championship Series standings that come out Monday. The Tigers were third on the BCS list, as well as both major polls, last week. The top two teams in the final BCS standings will play in the Orange Bowl for the national championship.

Auburn pulled even with Oklahoma on the basis of its impressive 24-6 victory over then-No. 8 Georgia on Saturday. The Tigers had been ranked third. Georgia fell to No. 11.

The Sooners, who entered Saturday's game ranked No. 2, lost ground to Auburn despite routing Nebraska 30-3. USC easily defeated Arizona 49-9.

All three teams are ranked 10-0. The only other major teams that are still unbeaten are Utah (10-0) and Boise State (9-0). The Utes moved from No. 7 to No. 5 in the AP Top 25, while Boise State improved one spot to No. 13. Utah defeated Wyoming 45-28, while Boise State struggled to dispatch San Jose State 56-49 in two overtimes.

Wisconsin tumbled from No. 4 to No. 9 after getting soundly beaten by Michigan State 49-14. It was the first loss of the season for the Badgers.

California (8-1) moved up from No. 5 to No. 4. After Utah, the rest of the Top 10 is: Texas, Michigan, Louisville, Wisconsin and Florida State.
