A California football player was arrested early Friday on weapons charges stemming from a fight outside a nightclub.
Authorities responding to a call found a weapon on David Gray, a 21-year-old sophomore receiver for the Golden Bears. They also found a gun in a vehicle, said police spokeswoman Maria Oropeza.
Gray faces a felony charge of tampering with identification marks on a firearm, and also was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, both misdemeanors. He was released Friday on a $30,000 bond.
"We're still gathering the facts," Bob Rose, a spokesman for the Cal athletic department, told the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday night. "We don't feel it's appropriate to comment until we have more information."
Gray has seen limited playing time for Cal. Hobbled by a foot injury, he played only one game this season, making one catch for 24 yards against Stanford.
Two other men also were arrested on weapons charges.
