Lamont Jordan's agent says he's "99.9 percent sure" the running back will sign with the Raiders.
The Oakland Raiders were close to signing free-agent running back LaMont Jordan on Wednesday, who was in town to meet with the team.
"We have a deal in principle that he should sign tomorrow morning - 99.9 percent sure he will be a Raider," Jordan's agent, Alvin Keels, said in an e-mail Wednesday night.
Jordan, who spent his first four seasons with the New York Jets, carried 93 times for 479 yards and two touchdowns last season and also made 15 catches for 112 yards.
Oakland released veteran running back Tyrone Wheatley on Wednesday, along with defensive tackle John Parrella.
The Raiders are determined to revive their running game, and Jordan has been waiting to become a full-time back after playing behind Curtis Martin all his career. Jordan has a career average of 4.9 yards per carry.
"There's no question we're working on signing a running back," coach Norv Turner said Wednesday after the team introduced new receiver Randy Moss. "I don't know where we're at. He's certainly a guy we're familiar with. We know a lot about him."
