  • USC player released on bail after sexual assault charge

Southern California starting cornerback Eric Wright has been arrested for investigation of sexual assault, police said Sunday.

The 19-year-old player was taken into custody early Saturday at a campus apartment by officers investigating reports of an assault, police spokeswoman Sara Faden said.

Wright was booked on rape charges and bail was set at $100,000, according to the Sheriff's Department. Wright posted bail and was released, Faden said.

Faden said no additional details were immediately available.

"We're aware of the situation and everyone is cooperating fully," athletic department spokesman Tim Tessalone said.

In January, Wright had one of USC's three interceptions as the Trojans won the national championship with a 55-19 victory over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl.

"We don't know a whole lot of information, but we're doing everything we can to help and cooperate," coach Pete Carroll told the Los Angeles Times. "It's just disappointing to think that these things have to come up even to be considered."
