Former NBA star Jayson Williams' trial in the death of a limousine driver will start Jan. 12.
Superior Court Judge Edward Coleman set the date during a brief hearing Wednesday, the deadline for Williams to reach a plea deal with Hunterdon County prosecutors.
Williams is accused of recklessly handling the shotgun that killed Costas Christofi in 2002 at Williams' Alexandria Township home. The former player could get nearly 55 years in prison on the charges, the most serious of which is aggravated manslaughter.
Coleman moved the trial from Hunterdon to Somerset County last month, citing extensive publicity about the case.
