  • USC fans can QUIT DREAMIN'!

Yeah Yeah. ESPN Gameday OU vs USC (good game) hype is great for holiday ratings but I'm tellin you folks, it's all smoke and mirrors and after actually analyzing the hard data I find it utterly amazing that anyone can realistically place or believe anyone who places USC in the same realm with the Sooners.

The first thing you want to see is how USC defense statistically stacks up against the Sooner offense so we'll take 2 teams OU has already played that are similar to USC in athleticism and speed-- Texas, which is slightly faster than OU, USC, and everybody else and OK State which may be slightly slower than USC..

    Pass Defense

    Yds against/game
    USC - 255.2
    TU - 171.8
    OSU - 241.5

    % passes completed against

    USC - 54.4
    TU - 46.3
    OSU - 55.4

    Passing TD's scored against

    USC - 15
    TU - 12
    OSU - 17

    Agressiveness Stats (QB Sacks)

    USC - 4
    TU - 41
    OSU - 31

    (Interceptions)

    USC - 17
    TU - 12
    OSU - 17

    (Fumble recoveries)

    USC - 2
    TU - 12
    OSU - 1

Rushing Defense (Yds against / carry)

    USC - 1.9
    TU - 3.6
    OSU - 3.8

Most teams use the run to set up the pass and the Sooners do the exact opposite.

The 2003 Sooner offense is truly 'Special' and the problem teams have when facing them is a constant situation of placing a few good athletes against superstars at every position and unless USC concedes their strongest suit, the rush by taking 1 out of the box to bolster pass coverage, they don't stand a chance in hellO of keeping OU out of the end zone 7 or 8 times minimum!

    Can USC score on OU??

Again; The comparison to Texas an Oklahoma State are so uncannily similar that I won't waste time going over the stats except to say that OU has already faced a MUCH BETTR offense than USC in Texas Tech and you see how far that got the Aggies, so the answer is...

not enough to remotely offset the 50 or so points Sooner pride is going to hang on the Trojans

Anyway IT'S A MUTE POINT!!!!!!!!!! Oregon State 47, USC 34.

Besides. LSU and Michigan both present a much stiffer challenge to OU than USC.

It will be settled where it should be settled. On the field.

nah..too many of the other bowls would lose money with a playoff. it will never happen in our lifetime. americans are too greedy.

what about the 2500 other bowls? would they still have bowl games not part of the playoff?

8 teams is not enough. you need at least 16 so lesser name programs still have a shot. 8 teams still allienates smaller programs.

i have thought about it and until we can get a 16 team playoff i dont see the purpose in a playoff. work on getting me 16 teams and i'll see whats going on.

16 teams is the way to go. basketball is great because we get 64 teams. can you imagine if basketball only had 16 teams? it would be insane. this is why football needs 16.
