  • JOSE CANSECO REACTS TO RAFAEL PALMEIRO SUSPENSION FOR USING STEROIDS

Former major league baseball player Jose Canseco was on the Jeff Rickard show on August 1st, and commented on the suspension on Baltimore Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro for violating Major League Baseball's steroids policy. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

Jose Canseco reacts to the news of Rafael Palmeiro's suspension
"I definitely do not believe that Rafael is using steroids right now. In the past, he has, but not right now. There is a serious issue here you have to watch out for. I would do a major, major investigation on Major League Baseball and the players' association, because they are one of the reasons why I also ended up in jail for three months."

Jose Canseco on his allegations that Major League Baseball is corrupt
"When my urinalysis was switched when I was on house arrest, I was put in jail for three months. I truly believe the individuals involved were Major League Baseball and the players' association. I would do a major,
major investigation on his urinalysis sample - if it was missing for any period of time - and I'd keep a strong eye on Major League Baseball and the players' association, especially on their leaders."

"I am crystal clear with this statement. I have dealt with Major League
Baseball before. They are very powerful and very corrupt."

Jose Canseco on MLB and the players' association being held accountable
"I think something has to be done with the entities and the powers of Major League Baseball. I predicted that this could and would happen, and it has. Obviously, they are picking this time to fight this battle when there is some kind of testing policy involved, and now trying to take out Rafael Palmeiro for what he may have done in the past."

Jose Canseco on people finally realizing he was telling the truth in his book
"I think people are now realizing, or starting realize, that every word, more or less, I said in the book is the absolute truth. Now, do I believe right now Rafael Palmeiro is dumb enough or gone crazy enough to use steroids? Absolutely not. There's no ifs or buts about it, especially when Congress is going to keep a very sharp eye on these athletes. There's no ifs or buts about it. Do I know for a fact that Major League Baseball is extremely corrupt and extremely manipulative, in accordance with the players' association? People will eventually learn and facts will come out in evidence that these individuals - major league baseball and the players' association - are diabolically corrupt."

Jose Canseco on why MLB chose Rafael Palmeiro as the scapegoat
"Right now, you are responsible for your actions. If he would have tested positive months back or years back, nothing would have happened. Right now, Major League Baseball may be trying to clean up steroids in its system, but they're going about it the completely wrong way."

"If Major League Baseball and the players' association are left to run rampant and destroy these individuals' lives, they're going to continue doing it."

Jose Canseco on his indictment of the Major League Baseball Players association:
"The players' association and Major League Baseball don't agree on a lot of things. But the thing they agree on 100 percent of the time is making money. And it's all about making money."
