Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has changed his tune and now says he did cross the goal line on his controversial Super Bowl touchdown, according to an interview on FOX SPORTS RADIO.
Roethlisberger, earlier this week, told David Letterman that he didn't think he scored on a controversial play in the second quarter that put the Steelers ahead for good 7-3. Roethlisberger dove toward the end zone but didn't appear to get the ball to touch the goal line. But officials on the field signaled touchdown. "I told Coach, 'I don't think I got in,'" Roethlisberger told Letterman. "But we were getting ready to go for it on fourth down anyway, and I would have run it again. So we would have found a way to get in."
In an interview with Ben Maller and Sean Farnham on FOX, Roethlisberger was asked about the controversial score: "Well, you know what? I went and I watched it and as we were watching it I crossed the goal line before I came down. I was commenting that I hadn't crossed - when I landed I wasn't across the goal line, but the rules state all the ball has to do is cross the goal line at any time and when I jumped and was in the air going over the top it definitely crossed it was just when I came down I wasn't. That's what I wanted to tell Coach. I just wanted to make sure that Coach knew that worst case scenario, we might not be in."
Maller responded, "you really thought you scored? It didn't look like you scored!"
Roethlisberger: "Oh yeah!! Go back and look at it!! The ball crossed the plane now!"
