  • Brady, Leinart blazing new trail

Bridget's got a little Brady on the way.

So Tom Brady got caught in what I've affectionately labeled the ol' Give 'N' Go.

When Brady ended his two-year relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan a couple months ago, little did he know their association was apparently far from over.

Turns out they're about to have a lifetime of fun together. Just as we were coming down from a fabulous sports weekend that included the Daytona 500 and the NBA All-Star Game festivities, the news broke that the 36-year-old actress is three months pregnant with Baby Brady.

And here Brady thought that late interception against the Colts in the AFC Championship Game was his biggest headache.

This is significant news on several fronts -- and not just because we now know who'll be quarterbacking Michigan in the year 2026, or because this baby business gives us some clue as to why Brady and Moynahan might have parted ways last December.

Brady is now the second white NFL quarterback in the last year that has become embroiled in baby-mama drama.

First there was Matt Leinart, whose baby mama -- USC basketball player Brynn Cameron -- gave birth to their child last October. And if you count back the months, Leinart might have been juggling Cameron and Paris Hilton around the same time. Now that's what I call a scramble play. Good work, Matt.

So, what's going on here? Does ESPN The Magazine need to do a Where's (White) Daddy cover story? [In 1998, Sports Illustrated had a cover story about athletes having babies out of wedlock and that feature focused predominantly on black athletes.] Do white NFL quarterbacks now represent the new at-risk baby-daddy population?

Only in perilous times like these can we dare ask: WWKFD -- What Would Kevin Federline Do?

    OK, maybe not.

But if I'm Eli Manning or Brady Quinn, I'm watching my back.

Anyway, although Brady is in a tough situation -- especially since things had just begun to heat up with him and supermodel Gisele Bundchen -- his and Leinart's off-field drama shows just how far sports have come.

Last week, we had our first NBA player -- now out of the league -- to acknowledge publicly that he is gay. This week, a prominent white athlete is caught up in a situation straight out of a Mary J. Blige song.

For so long, baby mamas and illegitimate children were stereotyped as problems only associated with black athletes. But this proves that ghetto-fabulousness knows no color.

Welcome, Matt and Tom, to the world of outrageous child support payments. Welcome to being labeled contributors to the country's moral decay and growing out-of-wedlock birth rate.

And here's an observation that's worth noting about the Leinart and Brady baby situations: It's not just hoodrats and gold diggers who know how to execute a perfect trap.

If Moynahan and Cameron were technically exes at the apparent time of conception, that would give a whole new meaning to the idea of breakup sex.

It's difficult to ignore just how financially rewarding this is for both women. Moynahan's most notable role to date was playing Mr. Big's wife on "Sex and the City." Having Brady's baby -- wouldn't that be a catchy reality show? -- has got to be worth a whole lot more than any acting gig she's ever had. And for Cameron, being Leinart's baby mama is a lot more lucrative than a WNBA career.

But one thing I'll give both Leinart and Brady credit for is they certainly know how to deal with unplanned pregnancy news well.

As the news of Moynahan's pregnancy broke, pictures of Brady and Gisele in Paris were circulating all over the Internet. Brady hardly seemed like a man about to lose 15 percent of his income. (By the way, is there any way the first confrontation between Gisele and Moynahan can be put on pay-per-view?)

And since his ex announced she was pregnant, Leinart has been linked to everyone -- from Lindsay Lohan to Britney Spears.

OK, maybe Leinart might want to consider going back to Cameron after all.
