An argument about how many championship rings Los Angeles Lakers Coach Phil Jackson has led to a stabbing in Northport Thursday night.
A group of friends were watching the championship game between the Lakers and the Celtics at a home in the 900 block of 13th Avenue, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit commander Capt. Loyd Baker said.
Shortly after the Lakers victory, the 30-year-old victim and the suspect began arguing about how many rings Jackson has. The suspect jumped on the victim and stabbed him several times, Baker said.
The victim was treated at Northport DCH, where he received stitches for two of the stab wounds and adhesive bandages for the rest. He provided a description of the suspect, but did not know his name. The owner of the house did not know the suspect's name, but said that he is fairly well-known in the area. Investigators were still looking for him Friday afternoon.
Jackson, 64, won his 13th championship ring with the victory Thursday night. He earned two as a player with the New York Knicks, six while coaching the Chicago Bulls and five while coaching the Lakers.
