  • Reports surface early Thursday that LeBron James plans to join Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh on Miami Heat

Maybe LeBron James should make his announcement from South Beach Thursday night.

Though the superstar free agent plans to reveal his future NBA team from the Boys and Girls Club in Greenwich, Conn., - a jump shot away from the New York Knicks' practice facility in Greenburgh, N.Y. - reports surfaced early Thursday morning that James plans to join the Heat, where a new 'Big Three' appears to be on the horizon in Miami.

It would be the third major coup in fewer than 48 hours for Pat Riley's Heat. Franchise star Dwyane Wade announced his intention to re-sign with the team he won an NBA championship with in 2006, and former Toronto All-Star Chris Bosh said he'll be joining the Finals MVP in South Beach.

The news of James' intentions to avoid the Big Apple first appeared in a published report online and in multiple posts by NBA reporters on Twitter. It came less than a day after multiple reports indicated the New York Knicks' chances of signing James had improved.

On Wednesday, Jared Dudley, a former Phoenix Suns teammate of Amar'e Stoudemire, posted on his Twitter account, "Breaking News!!! My sources tell me LeBron will announce that he will be goin to the NY KNICKS tomorrow on ESPN.. This is serious.. WOW!!!!"

Later in the day, a source close to James said the NBA star was expected to fly to Greenwich, Conn., to take part in an hour-long, nationally-televised special with ESPN Thursday night. In addition to its close proximity to the Knicks' practice facility, Greenwich is approximately 25 miles from Madison Square Garden.

If LeBron goes to Miami, that will be interesting times indeed. They will without a doubt be the most top-heavy team in all the league and we'll see how much success 3-on-5 can bring if the 3 are really damn good.

I can't wait to see what would be one of the most hated teams in all of sports history. You might as well rename American Airlines Arena "Al-Qaeda Garden." You could put Zombie Manute Bol in at center and it wouldn't make that team the slightest bit more sympathetic. And it'll only get worse once Riley convinces Erik Spoelstra that he should spend more time with his family. It would be even worse than Stan Van's firing. Imagine it: this mild-mannered, youthful-looking guy pushed out of this promising coaching spot by an old greasy-haired Gordon Gekko-throwback motherfarker. The league should consider giving out some sort of annual "dragon slayer" award to any team that eliminates this group in the playoffs.

As soon as I heard he was announcing in an hour long special, King James On Ice, I'd had enough. Seriously, it's irritating when high school seniors take ten minutes at a press conference to pull a hat out of a bag. He's doing that for an hour, after stringing people along for years. If you need a full hour to say any of the following, "Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Miami", then hooked on phonics didn't really work for you, and you should consider going back and taking some remedial summer courses.
