It appears that if NWA: TNA can maintain their current weekly PPV buyrate level and save money by having one PPV per month taped, they will be able to start cutting the massive losses they racked up during their first few months. Thus, if they maintain their buys and cut about $100,000 by having one taped PPV per month, they will basically be at the break even point.
If they are breaking even, the promotion likely will be able to last. The problem is that most indications show interest going down in TNA's product, and it remains to be seen if a taped show every month (to which the spoilers will be available on the 'net) will be able to sustain a regular buyrate.
The Royal Rumble brought in about 485,000 buys or a .90 buyrate which comes in above WWE's projected 475,000 buys for the show. The number is below 2003's Royal Rumble which did 515,000 buys. Of course, after the final tally is in, the 2004 Rumble should finish at roughly the same level as the 2003 Rumble.
The positive Rumble buyrate seems to indicate good interest in WrestleMania XX which WWE is somewhat paranoid about right now. Many are pointing out that WMXX does not have the killer main event that it may need to not only live up to the hype, but also to pull in a lot of buys at a high $49.95 price.
Shaniqua did not accompany the Basham Brothers to the ring for their match last night at the SmackDown! tapings. As we have been reporting, Sunday at No Way Out was her last night on the main WWE roster working that gimmick as she is being sent to OVW to further her training. We'll keep you posted.
