Backstage News From Last Night's SD! Taping, Lots More
"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase (aka the original John Bradshaw Layfield) was backstage at the SmackDown! tapings in Chicago last night, and will be traveling with Ohio Valley Wrestling today, alongside Stephanie McMahon, John Laurinatis, and Dave Lagana. He will be starting his tenure as backstage consultant for the WWE SmackDown! creative team and agent for the wrestling brand.
DiBiase apparently admitted to WWE during the interview process that he hadn't kept up with the product or the current characters on SmackDown, but was told they wanted someone with a feel for old school wrestling to give his ideas and comments on the product. DiBiase also kept honest about his faults creatively, mentioning how Bill Watts let him try the booker role in the old Mid-South territory and it didn't work out as well as he'd have liked.
Ted DiBiase was said to have been integrating himself well last night among the talent, and is already being treated with respect by the superstars as most grew up watching him and have respect for his work and contributions to the brand as an agent.
